The murals of Utrecht-based artist JanIsDeMan are inextricably linked to the locations where they are created. The unique shape of a wall or building often inspires his compositions. Sometimes, he literally gives a house a face with his iconic eyes; other times, he incorporates the favorite books of local residents into an impressive painting of a giant bookshelf. His art always emerges in harmony with its surroundings. What began as a rebellious act with spray paint has evolved into a mission to make people smile, spark their imagination, and occasionally convey a timely message.
